Hearing from God

bible-155788_640

Quite recently I finished listening to Lisa TerKeurst Audio Book entitled “What Happens When Women Say Yes to God” and I gotta say that I loved this book. So empowering and encouraging…also challenging. Totally recommend it, you can read my reading progress for this year here.

This book ministered to me particularly in two aspects: Hearing God’s voice and Radical Obedience.

And today I’ll share what I learned or my take away from this book on Hearing God’s voice:

The thing is that God always wants us to live in expectation of hearing from him. I know sometimes God seems to be so far away, so quiet..yet  He’s never moved. He’s unmovable,  unshakeable, unchangeable.  He’s promised to never leave us nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6)

He’s your father, Your creator, and He calls you friend.

I have finally understood that if I can’t hear God is because definitely something is wrong  with my hears (spiritual ones), and it might be time for a check-up.

Or perhaps I’m too busy and so overwhelmed by all the voices in my head and around me. Perhaps I haven’t learned well enough how to recognize God’s voice. Perhaps I haven’t taken enough time to get to know Him better.

Everyday God speaks to us, that’s a fact. Sometimes He invites us to draw closer and listen as He reveals Himself, His Character and His direction. Some other times He calls to us to participate in His purposes and yet some others He simply whispers to remind us how He loves us.

It just humbles me the fact that the creator of the universe. The author of creation want so commune with me. That he cares for me and my issues…there’s nothing too small or insignificant in my life that He won’t care about. (such as knowing the number of hairs on my head! Luke 12:7…yes, that’s what I call real love)

There’s no magic formula for you to hear from God, But there is a vital element to start doing so.

KNOWING HIM

His word says “The gatekeeper {JESUS} opens the gate for him {GOD}, and the sheep {YOU AND I}  listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep {US} by name, and leads them out. Whenever he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.- John 10:3-4 WEB, emphasis mine

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give eternal life to them. They will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.- John 10:28-28 WEB

HOW CAN WE COME TO KNOW HIM? HOW CAN WE DISCERN HIS PERFECT WILL FOR OUR LIVES?

By renewing our minds…how do we renew them? Through His Word.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2 ESV

Next week Monday I’ll share the 5 Key questions to help you determine if what you hear is from God, that Lisa shares in her book! They will blow our mind! 🙂

Blessed in His Service,

Angie
